I'm Yutaka Kurata, the owner and host of Shiki. I was born and raised in Oita Prefecture and currently lead a two-base life traveling between Malaysia and Japan as both an engineer and architectural designer. My exploration of new forms of homestays was the catalyst for starting Shiki.Leveraging my experience studying architecture at Kyoto University of the Arts, I specialize in designing spaces that respect Japan’s traditional sense of beauty while incorporating elements of tropical Malaysia. Beppu is my hometown, and Malaysia has become a place I can call my second home. Through your stay at Shiki Villa, I hope you’ll fully experience the appeal of these two “hometowns.” I will do my utmost to support you with heartfelt Japanese hospitality.
